Notice at Court in Ethopia

We've received many inquiries today about the notice posted in Ethiopia stating that beginning March 7, MoWA will only process 5 adoption cases per day.

We are aware of this, and members of our Ethiopian staff have scheduled a private meeting with MoWA representatives for tomorrow to learn more about the specifics and how this will impact adoptions at IAN.  While we want to provide information to our families as quickly as possible, we also want to be careful that all information is verified and accurate.

Please continue to check back here for more information as it becomes available.  Thank you for your patience.

GOOD NEWS, and a few updates!!

There has been so much celebrating and happiness at IAN!!!  Please join us in celebrating the good news:

SEVEN families passed court today in Ethiopia!!!

For SIX of these families, today was their very first court appointment!!  They were able to celebrate while in Ethiopia with their children.

ONE of these families was from the Gambella region.  That makes TWO of our Gambella families who have passed court, the rest have upcoming court appointments.  We are so inspired by the faith and endurance these families showed, and couldn't be any happier that it is paying off!

TWELVE families received their court dates today!

Last week, TWO families received their embassy approval only a week after submittal!

Our heartfelt congratulations to all of these families!!  We hope everyone else is encouraged by this good news!

Post Adoption Dialogue Group for Adoptive Parents

Hello IAN Families!

We are seeking your input and thoughts this morning about a possible group IAN may be offering in the near future.  The Post Adoption Dialogue Group will include adoptive parents who have been home with their adopted child(ren) for any amount of time.  The primary focus and goals of this group include:
  • Sharing experiences with other adoptive families.
  • Compiling resources and strategies for overcoming the "after adoption blues".
  • Connect with other families, adoption trainers and hopefully guest speakers.
  • Babysitting included!!  Children will have the opportunity to meet and connect with other adopted children and siblings.
  • Other ideas, brought to us by YOU!
Please let us know if you would be interested in joining us for this new group.  It will be held at our IAN office in Centennial, one evening a month.  Comment on this post or email Elizabeth@adoptioninternational.net.

Thanks and we can't wait to hear from you!

IAN and the increased demands at Embassy

Over the last few weeks, we have seen increased demands with the I604 investigations at the Embassy in Addis Ababa. In the past, they have requested the following documents be submitted for an Embassy interview:

1. Passport and copy.
2. Original birth certificate with 1 copy.
3. DS-230 form filled.
4. Two 5X5 photographs.
5. Adoption Decree (Amharic and Translated) original and copy.
6. Adoption contract (Original and copy)
7. Copy of Power of Attorney.
8. Kebele documents (translated and Amharic) with one additional copy.

After the Embassy reviews the paperwork, they will let us know if the family is cleared or if they require any further paperwork. The documents the Embassy requests vary depending on each child’s case. In order to hopefully reduce the percentage of cases they request additional documents for (as stated in the conference call, 90%), we are taking the following steps:
~ We have two new full time employees at IAN in Ethiopia, the new social worker and Yared.
~ The new social worker will be checking all paperwork for any errors.
~ Yared will work with Abebe to help with checking in with the Embassy, communicating with our US staff and simplifying the process as much as possible.
~ We have compiled the list of Embassy requests from the past few groups so if requested by the Embassy again, our staff will be able to gather these items quickly.

Additional documents have been requested by the Embassy that are specific to each child’s case. We are unable to gather all of this information on each child ahead of time because we do not know what the Embassy will ask for and many requests require the birth parents be questioned. We do not want to create any additional stress on the birth families.

Please know that our staff in the US and Ethiopia are working extremely hard, day and night, to help bring these children home as soon as possible.
